Bunnik, Netherlands, 28 September 2006 – Müller-Altvatter (a German operating company of Royal BAM Group and specialized in building projects) in joint venture with its sister company HBM Stadien- und Sportstättenbau has won the building contract for the arena O2 World in Berlin. The client is Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), one of the leading sports and entertainment organisations in the world. The contract value amounts to EUR 103 million. The completion of O2 World is expected in August 2008.
The multifunctional stadium complex is to be built on the site of a former railway station for mail freight in the eastern part of Berlin. The arena will provide 60,000 m² of space with seating and stands for maximum 17,000 visitors. The arena will provide for all kinds of sporting (like ice-hockey and basketball), cultural and musical events. The project includes the external landscaping of the site, totalling 180,000 m².
BAM has a lot of experience in the construction of stadiums. In Germany BAM has built other projects like the AWD-Arena in Hanover, the Ostseestadium in Rostock, Arena Auf Schalke in Gelsenkirchen and the SAP-Arena in Mannheim.
