HBG awarded over £100 million Welsh Health Framework contracts
HBG Construction Ltd has been awarded two hospital construction contracts with a total value of £103.8 million by Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust as part of the newly launched ‘Designed for Life: Building for Wales Framework’ programme, within which HBG is one of three Supply Chain Partners.
The largest of the two projects is to construct the new Caerphilly Local General Hospital at Ystrad Fawr where HBG is to provide a new integrated hospital facility with a total floor area of 24,000 sq. m. over a height of four storeys. This £78.6 million contract will commence in September 2007 with a completion set for September 2010. The 276-bed facility will provide a range of health services including local emergency services, diagnostic and treatment services, children?s clinic, services for women, a mental health unit and an integrated care centre with stroke unit, physiotherapy and other services.
The new hospital will be constructed on the site of the existing Caerphilly County Borough Offices. HBG Construction is currently engaged in a separate £20.8 million contract let earlier this year to build the council?s new offices at nearby Tredomen into which they will decant prior to demolition of the old offices.
The second project is to construct a new local general hospital on the site of the old Corus steel works at Ebbw Vale. The new 107-bed Blaenau Gwent Local GeneralHospital will provide 10,000 sq. m. of accommodation for outpatient clinics, local diagnostics, minor injuries unit, therapy services, an adult mental health unit and inpatient facilities for rehabilitation, palliative care and elderly support services. The £25.2 million project will commence construction in December 2007 and complete in November 2009.
