FCI Constructors wins $5.8 million contract to create new wetlands in north San Francisco Bay

Longmont, Colorado, 13 September 2004 - The California Department of Transportation recently awarded FCI Constructors a $5.8 million contract to create new wetlands along the Sacramento River delta at Suisun Bay thirty miles northeast of San Francisco.

"The new retention basin, with unrestricted tidal flow ditches and connecting channels, will create a wetland environment to accommodate fluctuating water levels of the Sacramento River's delta tides," explains FCI's Estimating Manager Bud Tolp. The eighteen acres of new wetlands will replace those lost during construction of the new Interstate I-680 Benicia-Martinez toll bridge.

FCI will excavate approximately 125,000 cubic meters of material and jack five 1,075-millemeter diameter steel pipes under Union Pacific Railroad mainline freight and commuter tracks, completing the restoration project in fourteen months.

FCI Constructors is the California subsidiary of Flatiron Construction Corp., a Royal BAM Group company.
