FCI Constructors awarded $187 million contract to construct new Sprinter Rail Line

Longmont, Colorado, 22 September 2004 - FCI Constructors, the southern California subsidiary of Flatiron Construction Corp., has been awarded a $187 million contract to reconstruct the new Sprinter Passenger Rail in Oceanside, California.

With a 65% share, FCI Constructors will manage West Coast Rail Constructors - a joint venture with Fluor Enterprises. The team will construct 22 miles of new rail line within the existing corridor and install new ballasted track, signals, passenger station platforms, communication and control systems, grade crossings, retaining walls, bridges, and additional equipment.

According to the North County Transit District, the new rail line will offer alternative transportation to one of the regions most heavily traveled corridors, provide additional travel freedom to the area's residents, and help reduce air pollution.
