Getting down to work in Oman

Just outside Sur, Oman, Interbeton has started work on the preparations for the design and construction of cooling water systems as part of extra production facilities for liquefied natural gas. The LNG plant expansion project is being undertaken by the Japanese main contractor Chiyoda. The contract value for Interbeton exceeds 18 million US dollars.

The cooling water systems comprise a 625-metre inlet pipe and a 375-metre outlet pipe, a pumping station and various small structures. The inlet and outlet pipes, with diameters of 1.8 and 2.2 metres, respectively, will be lowered into trenches excavated in the sea bed in sections 48 metres long. Part of the pipeline route passes through coral, and will involve blasting. To minimise the impact on the coral reef, Interbeton will be seeking the most favourable route by means of soundings and test drilling. Project execution will take 18 months.
