Amidst grand celebrations, California’s replacement bridge across the Carquinez Strait, close to San Francisco, was recently opened to traffic.
The suspension bridge, which is over a thousand metres long, was built in the space of three-and-a-half years by a consortium made up of Interbeton, Flatiron and Cleveland Bridge. The contract value was 188 million euros, the BAM companies’ share of which amounted to 122 million euros. Now that the project has been completed, the steel lattice girder bridge dating from 1927 (immediately alongside the new bridge) will be demolished. www.alzbridge.com
