Edmund Nuttall Ltd has been awarded a contract valued at £81 million to carry out strengthening and upgrading work on the Tinsley Viaduct in Sheffield. The scheme, which was awarded by the Highways Agency will allow the viaduct to be restored to three lanes in each direction.
The contract award follows an extensive four-month programme of surveys and tests on the bridge to ascertain the best method of carrying out the work. The scheme will include strengthening works to the piers and parapets, maintenance painting and works to provide a continuous hard shoulder on the upper M1 level when the viaduct is returned to three lanes in each direction.
The scheme will take around three years to complete.
