Transformer module for Danish wind farm
HBG Civiel Steel Structures has successfully completed the installation of a transformer module located off the Danish coast. The 1,000-tonne platform was lifted into place by the crane ship Asian Hercules.
The module forms part of a new 150-megawatt wind farm being built by Eltra over fifteen kilometres out to sea off Esbjerg. The electricity generated by the eighty wind turbines will be converted on the transformer platform from 5x36 to 170 kilovolts for onward transmission via submarine cables to a switching station on land. The transformer module was built by HBG Civiel Steel Structures in Schiedam, from where it was shipped to Esbjerg. The platform measures thirty by twenty metres and is equipped with a helicopter deck and service units. Operation is fully automatic from onshore.
