Tunnelling beneath the Western Scheldt Estuary has been completed. After 28 months, tunnelling machine Neeltje Suzanna finally surfaced again in January, attracting considerable interest.
Since then, Sara, the other machine, has also completed the 6.6-kilometre journey beneath the Western Scheldt. Now that the two machines have been dismantled, the tunnelling consortium, which includes Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau, can concentrate entirely on the finishing works.
