Terminal 2 at Munich Airport designated for Lufthansa flights is practically finished. Client of the ambitious high-speed project is Flughafen München Baugesellschaft mbH. The project has been carried out in nine months by Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau and Müller-Altvatter. Total contract value amounts to € 69.280.050.
Complex logistics, 210,000 m3 concrete and 38,500 tons of reinforced steel were necessary for the construction of the 1km long building. 20 million check-in‘s will be performed per year at Terminal 2. 120 check-in points and 24 terminals guarantee for a minimum connecting time of 30 minutes. Travellers convenience is taken care of in lounges, shops and restaurants. Terminal 2 will ensure that the enormous growth in passenger traffic are met by sufficient capacities. The limits of Munich Airport had been reached much sooner than expected, which called for the expansion. Projections predict a swell in passenger traffic to 40 million by 2010.
