The project in Boston involving the jacking of three tunnel boxes beneath a railway embankment without interrupting the trains – an achievement which HBG group companies Interbeton and Nuttall had a major hand in – has won the British Construction Industry Award [BCIA] for International Projects.
The BCIA-jury called it 'a phenomenal job' ;,pointing out that this was a project 'ten times the size of any jacked tunnel done previously anywhere in the world'. They also concluded that 'it was the only part of Boston's $15 billion urban highway scheme to be completed on time and on budget', going on to say, 'this approach saved Boston $300 million compared with a job that could not have been done.'
