£6 million water treatment contracts awarded to Nuttall

Edmund Nuttall Ltd has been awarded contracts totalling £6.2 million to undertake sludge digestion and phosphate dosing improvements across a number of sites operated by United Utilities Ltd.

The sludge digestion work will take place at three locations - St Helens, Huyton, and Runcorn on a design and build basis. These sites form United Utilities’ ‘Mersey Cluster’ and produce sludge for recycling to agricultural land.  Nuttall will carry out an upgrade of the facilities at each of the sites to ensure that the treated sludge complies with new UK regulations. Typical work will include the provision of in-pipeline pressurised sludge screening devices, pre-thickening tanks, post-thickening sludge storage tanks and the refurbishment of existing digesters and odour control. The phosphate dosing activity will be carried out at six locations within the United Utilities’ network in Lancashire and Cheshire.
