Nuttall's Dr Douglas Allenby appointed Visiting Professor

Dr Douglas Allenby, Chief Tunnelling Engineer with Edmund Nuttall Ltd, has been appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Newcastle in the Department of Civil Engineering.

This honour recognises his extensive knowledge of tunnelling, shaft sinking and underground works as well as his contribution to developing both academic and non-vocational qualifications in tunnelling related disciplines gained in a career spanning nearly 40 years.

The position of Visiting Professor will involve three types of activity within the civil engineering department: lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students, studio work with the same students and an active role in the development of teaching and research.

Dr Allenby has worked on a large number of demanding civil engineering projects including the Docklands Light Railway, Channel Tunnel and more recently two box jacking schemes at Dorney and in Boston, the latter being the largest in the world. He has also delivered countless technical papers on pipe jacking and box jacking and is a former chairman of the Pipe Jacking Association.
