HBG Construction has been awarded a £50.5 million design-and-construct contract by Helical Bar and the Prudential Assurance Co for a large office development adjacent to the historic former racing track at Brooklands, near Weybridge in Surrey.
Situated next to the River Wey, with the Brooklands Museum to the north and the former Finishing Straight and Malcolm Campbell Circuit to the northeast, the development will have the existing office complexes of Procter & Gamble and Sony to the east.
Named The Heights, the new Brooklands office development consists of five individually designed three-storey office buildings, giving a total area of 38,000 m2. Featuring piled foundations and concrete in situ frames, the buildings are to be clad in curtain walling, largely glazed; each building varying from 4,760 m2 to 11,864 m2. A two-storey car park is to be built, freeing up areas for surface car parking for a further 1,520 cars. Extensive flood compensation measures and landscaping are included in the works, as well as access roads and roundabouts.
Main construction works have already started and phased completion is due in the early spring of 2003.
