Ballast Ham Dredging has been awarded its first contract. In Mesaieed Port, Qatar, a transshipment yard of quarry rock is to be constructed for Qatar Petroleum. The total value of the contract is around €30 million.
The new dredging company Ballast Ham Dredging will carry out the project in joint venture with Italian contractor Grandi Lavori Fincosit. Ballast Ham Dredging will have a 40% share in the joint venture. The work involves the design and building of two quay walls of 470 and 150 metres long, the removal of some seven million cubic metres of soil from the harbour basin and land reclamation for two new pieces of land. Ballast Ham Dredging will deploy cutter suction dredger Castor for the job. Work is scheduled for completion at the end of 2002.
