First contract for Ballast Ham Dredging

Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 22 November 2001 - Ballast Ham Dredging bv has been awarded its first contract.

In Mesaieed Port, Qatar, a transshipment yard of quarry rock is to be constructed for Qatar Petroleum. The total value of the contract is around 30 million euros.

Ballast Ham Dredging will carry out the project in joint venture with Italian contractor Grandi Lavori Fincosit. The new dredging company Ballast Ham Dredging will have a 40% share in the joint venture. The work involves the design and building of two quay walls of 470 and 150 metres long, the removal of some seven million cubic metres of soil from the harbour basin and land reclamation for two new pieces of land.

Ballast Ham Dredging will deploy cutter suction dredger Castor for the job. Work on this project will start in December 2001 and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2002.

Ballast Ham Dredging operates in the fields of construction and maintenance of ports and waterways, land reclamation and beach replenishment, coastal and shore protection works, and offshore services. The company was formed on 14 November 2001 as a result of the merger of the dredging divisions of Ballast Nedam nv and HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv. HBG owns two thirds of the Ballast Ham Dredging shares whereas Ballast Nedam owns one third.
