HAM 310 trailing suction hopper dredger lengthened

This was carried out by the Singapore Technologies Marine shipyard in Singapore, where an entirely new dredging system will also be fitted. The modifications to the HAM 310 represent an investment in the order of tens of millions of Dutch guilders. The HAM 310 will be operational again by the end of 2000.

Lengthening the HAM 310 involved cutting through the vessel amidships. A segment was then welded into the vessel, increasing its length to 167 metres. By lengthening the vessel, the hopper capacity has been increased from 8,200 to 12,500 cubic metres.

HAM is currently involved in a number of major land reclamation projects in South-East Asia, including the Jurong 4B contract in Singapore. The lengthening of the HAM 310 contributes to  HAM's required capacity increase in a fairly short period of time.
