Start of Sustainability Upgrade at Rijkswaterstaat Support Centre in Hengelo

Work has commenced on the sustainability upgrade of the Rijkswaterstaat Support Centre in Hengelo. This location serves as a base of operations for both Rijkswaterstaat (a key site for road gritting) and the ANWB Roadside Assistance, playing an important role in the daily management and maintenance of regional infrastructure.

Sustainability Measures

BAM Bouw en Techniek is preparing the building—which consists of an office and a warehouse—for the future through a series of architectural, electrical, and mechanical upgrades. These include insulating the roof, installing new windows and façades with improved draught-proofing, and refreshing the paintwork. The electrical system is being adapted and expanded to meet current energy standards. A key improvement is the installation of a heat pump, providing a sustainable method of heating the building.

From F to A+ without demolition. BAM!

From Energy Label F to A+

The building will achieve an A+ energy label, indicating improved energy efficiency and greater comfort for its users. The works are expected to be completed in the first weeks of January 2026.

Long-term partnership

This major renovation is an example of the integrated approach that BAM Bouw en Techniek takes in its long-term partnership with Rijkswaterstaat for the management and maintenance of buildings in the northern Netherlands.
