Ascon wins contract for Carlow Bypass

Bunnik, Netherlands, 25 August 2006 - Ascon Ltd, the Irish operating company of Royal BAM Group nv, has been awarded the Phase 1: Powerstown to Prumplestown Design and Build Contract (Carlow Bypass) by Kildare County Council. The Carlow Bypass is the first section of the new N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford Roadway. The contract includes the construction of approximately 18.5 kilometres of high quality dual carriageway, 19 structures (bridges and underpasses), 9.5 kilometres of side roads and 12.5 kilometres of farm access roads. The contract value amounts to € 75 million.

The new Carlow Bypass project will see over 9,000 vehicles a day removed from Carlow's streets. The project will be completed in just 24 months. The new scheme will eventually link to the Waterford Bypass PPP Project. Ascon together with partner Dragados is undertaking the construction activities of this contract, which was awarded to the Celtic Roads Group (including BAM PPP).
