Flatiron’s Southern California subsidiary, FCI Constructors, has been awarded two projects. One to improve portions of Route 15 in San Diego, and another to construct a new roadway for the University of California-Irvine.
UC-Irvine chose FCI to design and construct the Southern Radial Road, which will provide access from the campus’s main road to on-campus student, faculty and family housing. As a design-build project based on ‘best value scoring’, UC-Irvine’s decision to award FCI the contract was not based on lowest bidder, but instead on an overall project value. The contract includes the new four-lane divided roadway, as well as associated storm drain facilities, signals, landscaping, irrigation, and additional project features.
