Steven Timms, UK’s minister of energy, recently visited the University of Newcastle’s new Devonshire Building. The Environmental and E-Science centre is a flagship development for the university, which has adopted the highest standards of environmental and sustainable design.
The Building is the first university laboratory in the country to achieve the Building Research Establishment Environmental assessment Method (BREEAM) ‘excellent’ rating, which is regarded by the UK construction sector as the ‘gold standard’ for environmental design and management. HBG Construction, BAM’s UK building company, is the principal contractor of the project.
