Recently Ascon completed, after a twelve-month duration, Farmleigh House in the Northwest of Dublin. The house in Georgian style was constructed in the early 1800's and has been in possession of the Guinness-family since 1873. The Irish Government purchased the 32-hectare country cottage from the famous brewing family in 1999. Farmleigh House will serve as the State guesthouse and as a venue for international meetings.
For almost €21 million the three-storey high house has been renovated. The house has 20 bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, a library and 6 huge Ball and banquet rooms. Besides the usual renovation works, like replacing the floors, treating the walls for rising damp and being re-plastered, renewing ceilings and installing new timber floors, the house has been equipped with a lift and a state of the art security system, comprising of 60 cameras and 55 infrared beams. To offer the guests some relaxation, the state ordered the installation of a covered pool, a gym, sauna and changing rooms. Over the pool a new storey was constructed, which houses the kitchen and the additional public facilities.
